History of the festival... |
The festival was created in 1996 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Dr. Henry Foster's sanitarium, now the Spa Apartments.
The water cure — largely centered on bathing in the village's highly sulphured water — was popular with the rich and famous for many years, bringing the village more wealth than it would have had otherwise. |

Because that prosperity occurred during the Victorian Era — marked by respectability and named for England's Queen Victoria, who ruled from 1837 to 1901 — volunteers dress in period costumes and participate in the parade and fashion show. |
